Corporate - Academia Interaction
On
Industry Needs from Management Graduates

For the last few months the entire world is face to face with a deadly crisis. Human generation is standing helpless on the shores of unprecedented sea of loss of human resources. Countries are busy to seek a way out. Humanity is locked and caged. The future seems to be all the more vulnerable. Young minds are sceptical to dream. In the words of P B Shelley

Keeping pace with the blast of digital education it is all the more important to raise up the drooping moral of not only the young and budding professionals but also, all other associated minds in the process to revive the spirit of mind. Questions are looming large as to what will be the fate of employment or, how to cope with the crisis. Answers are yet unpredictable.

With this in mind, an attempt was made to keep the mind working with hope and newer ideas. A Webinar was organized by Prof. Swati Basu for the final year students of BBA in relation to the needs of employability skills. The details of the Webinar is as follows

Date 16 April 2020
Time 7.00 – 9.00 pm
Topic Corporate - Academia Interaction on
Esteemed Speaker Mr. Sougata Maity
Regional Manager (Eastern), Sales, MRF Tyres Ltd.
Participants Final year students of BBA
Mr. Nemai Chakraborty, Training and Placement Officer, BIMS
Coordinator Prof. Swati Basu
Regrets Dr. Ramakanta Patra, Principal, BIMS (On official meeting)

The speaker shared his experiences of industry highlighting on the expectations of industry from the would-be recruits and trainees, the pitfalls and the areas where candidates fall short and the positive notes that keeps an interviewee going.

The esteemed speaker has also taken all the questions put forth by the students one on one and resolved their curious minds.

Mr. Nemai Chakraborty has been inspirational in providing an official outlook to the programme. Post interaction the students shared their experience as feedback of attending such webinar first of its kind and requested for more such experiences. A short report on the interaction along with the students’ and the training and placement officer’s feedback, prepared by Prof. Basu, has been shared with the Principal for further official documentation and requirements.

Unanimously, a little motivation will keep the spirit, the hope and the dream to rebuild a better future,

National Symposium, on "Understanding Mahatma Gandhi : Relevance of his thought and philosophy at our times"
Date 3rd March'2019

The house of Bharatiya Vidya.Bhavan has undertaken a nationwide initiative to celebrate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi round the year at its various institute locations. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science, Kolkata organized a National Symposium, on "Understanding Mahatma Gandhi : Relevance of his thought and philosophy at our times" during March 15-16, 2019. It was a collaborative effort with Dr. Kamal Taori International Institute of Panchaiyiti Raj and Holistic Rural Development. The symposium aimed to promote the values and philosophies of Gandhiji in a current scenario which is of massive unrest across countries and is in dire need of upholding human values and compassionate approach among humankind. The symposium also aimed to provide a common platform to discuss and interact on the theme with a view to promote collaboration and best practices. It also enabled the host organization and its partner organization to contribute to the preservation of Indian culture and tradition in alliance with organization’s own culture. Honorable Governor, Shri Keshri Nath Tripathi graced the occasion. Distinguished guests and learned delegates from various parts of the country contributed to its significance and attributes.

Prof. Dhurjati Mukherjee, Jt. Director of Dr. Kamal Taori International Institute had taken up the crucial responsibilities to give a shape to the Symposium. The BBA and MBA students of the Institute put up an enthusiastic hard work and cheerful coordination alongside the support of the workmate fraternity of Bhavan’s Institute of Management Science that led to the commendable success of the Symposium. Separate wings of students as various functional units of the Symposium shouldered responsibilities of registration, hospitality, public relations, transport,  dais, systems and so on under the supervision of distinctive heads; Prof Semanti Debroy Sen, Prof Jharna Dutta, Prof, Anupama Chanda Mitra, Prof.. Biswarup Chatterjee, Mrs. Sayori Poddar, Mr. Rana Ghosh Dastidar, Mr. Tapan Das, Mrs. Debarati Basak, Mrs. Sayoni Mukherjee, Mr. Bappa Banerjee, Mr. Bapi Nag  are to name a few. The encouragement and timely guidelines on the intricacies of the functional process from Dr. G V Subramanian, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan - Kolkata Kendra, Dr. Ramakanta Patra, Principal, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science (BIMS), Kolkata, Dr. A K Das Biswas, Senior Faculty and Advisor, BIMS, paved the way to the final formation. The photography - still and videography, by the MBA/BBA students and Mr. Banik would lead us to cherish the moments in future and rectify the pitfalls, unintentional though. The Symposium and/or any event could not stand on its own without the support and tireless help from the hands of housekeeping and security desk. The presence and active participation from all concerned in the BIMS family led us to a big breakthrough. Prof. Swati Basu was the convener of this National Symposium. The Symposium marked its close with the encouraging words from Dr. Sujit Mukherjee, Associate Dean, BIMS, Kolkata.
