Keeping pace with the blast of digital education it is all the more important to raise up the drooping moral of not only the young and budding professionals but also, all other associated minds in the process to revive the spirit of mind. The meeting was highly interactive. The speaker was introduced by the coordinator and the session was handed over. The speaker shared his experiences of industry highlighting on the expectations of industry from the would-be recruits and trainees, the pitfalls and the areas where candidates fall short and the positive notes that keeps an interviewee going.
The esteemed speaker has also taken all the questions put forth by the students one on one and resolved their curious minds.
Mr. Nemai Chakraborty has been inspirational in providing an official outlook to the programme. Post interaction the students shared their experience as feedback of attending such webinar first of its kind and requested for more such experiences. A short report on the interaction along with the students’ and the training and placement officer’s feedback, prepared by Prof. Basu, has been shared with the Principal for further official documentation and requirements.

About the Workshop:
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science, Kolkata in association with Ministry of MSME-Development Institute, Govt. of India-Kolkata Zone is organizing a One Day Awareness Workshop in the area of “Lean Start-Up System” on 21 st of February, Friday, 2020 at BIMS Campus. The workshop aims to build an awareness towards the approach of Lean Start Up System, its utility and effectiveness in terms of better business building and output. The workshop also examines and validates the methodologies through which an entrepreneur can investigate the experiment followed by testing and iterating the products/services development. The approach will include understanding the problem, defining the solution, create MVPs (Minimum Viable Product), experiment, measurement and learn. Eminent experts from the field will be facilitating the workshop as resource persons.
Target Participants:
The target participants are B-School Students, Students with mindset of being entrepreneur, existing entrepreneurs, factory managers and faculty of entrepreneurship as a subject. Any industry person with a background in production can also participate.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science is always a firm believer in induction of cross
cultural and industrial exposure among its management students to better equip themselves for the
sensitivity of the varied culture and application of theoretical frameworks into their career. To
strengthen the meaning of the belief the institution has conducted a student networking cum Industrial
visit to one of Bhavan’s network institute Bhavan’s Priyamvada Birla Institute Of Management at
Mysore from 18 th February to 23 rd February 2019. Total 43 students along with one faculty member Mr.
Biswarup Chatterjee, Assistant Professor and Two Training and Placement Officers Mr. Nemai
Chakraborty and Mrs. Sayori Poddar have experienced the tour. The student exchange cum industrial
visit is one of its first kind of initiative that have taken place in Bhavan’s academic journey. The
objective of the tour was successfully minted among students through regular class room activities,
outbound training, expert sessions and factory visit of NIE-Eicher Joint Facility at Mysore. For the
outbound session a day tour to Coorg has also been organized. In nutshell the tour has successfully
achieved its objective by offering a vibrant and time bound schedule with some unforgettable cherished
memoirs.

AIMS CONFERENCE BROCHUREIn continuation to the yester years, this year too BIMS was back with its Annual Management Fest IGNACIA 2k19. It was held during 27-28 April 2019 at the Institute’s premise. The theme of the Fest for this year was ‘Pegasus – The Unbounded’. The enthusiastic and dedicated efforts of MBA and BBA students of BIMS enabled organize the event. The cooperation of teaching and non-teaching staff members of BIMS family added color and zeal in organizing the event. The support and cooperation of the Director, the Principal and their time to time suggestions helped the coordinators to effectuate the much awaited event of the students. Presence of Dr. G D Gautama, the respected Chairman added grace to the event. The active coordination by Prof. Swati Basu and Prof. Jharna Dutta led to the synchronization of the parts into an organized whole.
Bhavan’s Institute of Management Science Kolkata is a frontrunner in creating the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the society and to capitalize on the objective the E-Cell of BIMS with collaboration and mentorship of MSME, Govt. of India has organized a Five Day capsule program on Entrepreneurship Development at Bhavan’s salt lake campus from 9th April to 13th of April for the budding entrepreneurs. The Program does not only caters to the theoretical understanding of the aspects of a startup but also supplemented it by one day plant visit to Herald Food Products Pvt. Ltd based at Southern corner of Kolkata. Mr. S. Mukherjee, Asst. Director-MSME Kolkata and his team has successfully conducted the program with the coordination of the E-Cell and Prof. Biswarup Chatterjee of BIMS Kolkata. The program has received a huge acceptance that has reflected afterwards in the participants’ feedback survey done on the last of the event on 13th of April 2019. The event was inaugurated by Dr. R K Patra, Principal, BIMS on 9th of April and felicitation and valediction done by Dr. G V Subramanian, Director, Bhavan’s Kendra Kolkata on 13th of April 2019.
“Adrenaline 2019” The Annual Sports Meet of Bhavan’s Institute of Management Science, Kolkata has been held between 5th & 6Th April 2019 at Bhavan’s playground at Salt lake Campus. The Sports meet was categorized into Girls, Boys and Staff section and total 7 different sports events were organized namely Staff Cricket, Students’ Cricket, Carrom, Table Tennis, 100 meter Girls Race, 400 meter Girls Relay Race and Tug of War . One musical chair event for faculty and staff was also organized in the meet. Prof. Biswarup Chatterjee of BIMS and his team had coordinated the whole sports meet. The inauguration was chaired by Dr. G V Subramanian, Director, Bhavan’s Kendra and the valedictory was presided by Dr. R K Patra, Principal, Bhavan’s Institute of Management Science, Kolkata.
The house of Bharatiya Vidya.Bhavan has undertaken a nationwide initiative to celebrate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi round the year at its various institute locations. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science, Kolkata organized a National Symposium, on "Understanding Mahatma Gandhi : Relevance of his thought and philosophy at our times" during March 15-16, 2019. It was a collaborative effort with Dr. Kamal Taori International Institute of Panchaiyiti Raj and Holistic Rural Development. The symposium aimed to promote the values and philosophies of Gandhiji in a current scenario which is of massive unrest across countries and is in dire need of upholding human values and compassionate approach among humankind. The symposium also aimed to provide a common platform to discuss and interact on the theme with a view to promote collaboration and best practices. It also enabled the host organization and its partner organization to contribute to the preservation of Indian culture and tradition in alliance with organization’s own culture. Honorable Governor, Shri Keshri Nath Tripathi graced the occasion. Distinguished guests and learned delegates from various parts of the country contributed to its significance and attributes.
Prof. Dhurjati Mukherjee, Jt. Director of Dr. Kamal Taori International Institute had taken up the crucial responsibilities to give a shape to the Symposium. The BBA and MBA students of the Institute put up an enthusiastic hard work and cheerful coordination alongside the support of the workmate fraternity of Bhavan’s Institute of Management Science that led to the commendable success of the Symposium. Separate wings of students as various functional units of the Symposium shouldered responsibilities of registration, hospitality, public relations, transport, dais, systems and so on under the supervision of distinctive heads; Prof Semanti Debroy Sen, Prof Jharna Dutta, Prof, Anupama Chanda Mitra, Prof.. Biswarup Chatterjee, Mrs. Sayori Poddar, Mr. Rana Ghosh Dastidar, Mr. Tapan Das, Mrs. Debarati Basak, Mrs. Sayoni Mukherjee, Mr. Bappa Banerjee, Mr. Bapi Nag are to name a few. The encouragement and timely guidelines on the intricacies of the functional process from Dr. G V Subramanian, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan - Kolkata Kendra, Dr. Ramakanta Patra, Principal, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science (BIMS), Kolkata, Dr. A K Das Biswas, Senior Faculty and Advisor, BIMS, paved the way to the final formation. Off the curtain, the countless paper works from Mr. Chandan Mukherjee, Mr. Somnath Paul puts the event on record. The photography - still and videography, by the MBA/BBA students and Mr. Banik would lead us to cherish the moments in future and rectify the pitfalls, unintentional though. The Symposium and/or any event could not stand on its own without the support and tireless help from the hands of housekeeping and security desk. The presence and active participation from all concerned in the BIMS family led us to a big breakthrough. Prof. Swati Basu was the convener of this National Symposium. The Symposium marked its close with the encouraging words from Dr. Sujit Mukherjee, Associate Dean, BIMS, Kolkata.

As part of CSR activities, a Street Play of 15 minutes duration was organized on “Safe Drive Save Life”. The objective of the programme was to create mass awareness and encourage people especially, the younger generation, to be more disciplined and induce into them the value of their life to family and society at large. With the kind cooperation of a team of traffic police, under the aegis of Deputy Commissioner of Police (HQ), Bidhan Nagar, the programme was successfully executed on 2 March 2019 at 3.00 pm near Big Bazaar (Carnival), Salt Lake, Sector – III, Kolkata. The event was coordinated by Prof. Swati Basu and Prof. Jharna Dutta of BIMS, Kolkata under the banner of SCOPE. The attempt could be made successful holding the hands of the students who have extended untiring efforts and enthusiasm. BIMS takes pleasure in inviting you to contribute papers and participate in National Conference on the Global Strategy for Self-Sufficiency. The Conference aims to provide a platform for academicians, research scholars, practising managers from corporates, CSR wings of corporates, NGOs and students of management, social science and technology to develop, contribute and present papers. The event will help in bringing together executives from industry -- CSR wing in particular, NGOs and Academics to meet, discuss, exchange views and various issues of self-sufficiency globally and strategy thereof.
A panel of experts will consider outstanding papers for three designated awards. The decision of the Panel will be final and binding. The best papers will be awarded on the basis of content, writing and presentation skills.
Becoming self –sufficient in the various areas such as food and food production, agriculture, Green Movement—protection of forests, protection of flora and fauna, protection to indigenous populations, living in harmony with the environment, conservation of energy,self-sufficiency in knowledge, technology, research & development, healthcare, infrastructure, etc. is the need of the hour for economic development in developing countries. Developed countries cannot survive long without the growth of developing countries. Hence for their survival also they should facilitate self-sufficiency in developing countries. Hence the Global Strategy for Self-sufficiency is probably the appropriate theme of the conference.
Original papers on as mentioned below are invited. The contributor can club two or more sub-themes in one and give the name of the topic accordingly. They can include any other topic falling under the broad gamut of the main theme.

Above- mentioned sub-themes are only indicative ,not exhaustive . Paper contributors are highly encouraged to submit papers related to the different functional areas of management. The papers should related with the theme/sub- theme at the conclusion. Papers with contemporary nature and advocating various disciplines of management can also be considered.
All papers will be evaluated through a double blind review process constituted by drawing experts from Institutions/ Universities/ Organizations of repute in and outside India. Only original, unpublished work is sought. Any proposal submitted to present identical or substantially similar work already published, under review for another conference or publication will not be considered. In the covering letter accompanying the manuscript, the contributors should certify that the manuscript has neither been published anywhere nor is it at present being considered anywhere for publication.
The delegates are requested to send the abstracts of their papers not exceeding 300 words, 12 point font size, Times New Roman font on MS Word/PDF with single line spacing to the Conference convener along with the name and address of the author(s), Contact No. & E-mail IDs latest by 17th February, 2018.
The blind review expert committee will screen the papers. Full length paper should not be more than 3000 words (Maximum 10 pages).Tables, illustrations, and charts, figures etc. should be serially numbered and duly acknowledged. Sources of the data need to be given below each table. Only those references that are actually utilized should be included in the reference list and should be alphabetically arranged. The first page of the manuscript should have the title of the paper, name of the author(s), organization affiliation, complete mailing address, phone number, fax number (if any) and e-mail address. Please do not indicate author(s) name, affiliation or any other such information in the manuscript elsewhere. One soft copy of the paper in the above mentioned format should also be submitted by E-mail: nmc2018@bimskol.org.

Publication of Papers
All accepted papers shall be published in the proceedings of the conference and the full paper in BIMS Journal of Management, Vol.III, ISSN No. 2456-222X. A copy of the book will be provided free to all the registered participants.
Selection and publication of papers shall be the prerogative of the editorial board of respective journals. BIMS, Kolkata shall only forward the papers for consideration of publication.

Bharatiya Vidyabhavan Institute of Management Science, Kolkata have organised Annual Intra-college Advertising competition “Ad-Mad Show” 2017 on 27th of November, 2017. The ultimate objective of the show was to give management students a platform to showcase their promotional skills and to emancipate their innate talent. The competition has been inaugurated and attended by Dr. G.V. Subramanian, Honourable Director, Bhavan’s Eastern Kendra and Dr. R.K.Patra, Principal, Bharatiya Vidyabhavan Institute of Management Science, Kolkata. Overall co-ordination was looked after by Mr. Biswarup Chatterjee, Assistant Professor – Marketing, BIMS and the other faculty member of the institute. It was also presided by an external evaluator from the industry. The competition had two rounds of elimination process and out of six participating teams, only Team Skill could made the mark and awarded as the winner. The other teams are Team Darji ki Marji, Team Helium, Team Agnee, Team Desi-Dum and Team Foodies. The industries represented by the students were Online Tailoring Start-up, Cab services, Eco-sustainable real estate, personal hygiene and Food etc. to name a few. The competition received flamboyant attraction by the spectators and it was applauded by the institute’s management also. The event was successfully concluded by the award ceremony followed by a motivational speech of the Principal Dr R. K Patra which has indicated towards hosting of a larger format of the competition in near future at BIMS.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science has organised a Short Term Course on ‘Research Techniques in Social Science through SPSS’ for three months starting from June to August 2016 which has commenced on 11th June (Saturday). The course has been designed with an objective to understand the basic theoretical techniques of Research with hands on experience of using SPSS Software. It has been designed in weekend form to accommodate in-service teachers and researchers and as they can get ample time to study and practice over the last topic before going through the next class.
