At BIMS, we believe the holistic development of the students and to update them, we frequently organise different workshop, seminar, guest-lecture, simulation, role-play, Moot-Courts etc by inviting experts from the respective fields. In the last academic year, we have organised program like Case-Writing workshop, workshop on SPSS, personality development programs, Mock GD/PI, Advance Excel, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship Development Program etc. BIMS is having the corporate mentor scheme through which corporate executive are visiting our Campus on every Saturday to interact with the students and sharing their knowledge and experience.
National Workshop on KOHA : an open source solution for making effective library
The two –day workshop is aimed at empowering working library professionals automating library processes using the open source- source oftware KOHA. KOHA is one of the most widely used ILMS in the world for its easy implementation without limiting to library size, and strong development support. It helps in all areas of library functions such as Acquisition, Cataloguing, Circulation, Serial Control. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together the library professionals from the library of different academic institutions. This workshop is intended to equip participants with developing their skills to automate their libraries. There were lectures as well as intensive hands-on training sessions by xperts in the field. Thus it will provide both theoretical bases and practical skill to the participants. Eminent Library professionals from academic institutions and public libraries were invited as Delegates by the organizers. The Guest of Honor of the Workshop was Dr.Pijush Kanti Panigrahi,HOD, Library &Information Science, University of Kolkata and Dr.Parthasarathi Das,Asst.Library & Information Officer,National Library ,Kolkata. The keynote speech was delivered by Dr.Kishor Chanda Satpathy, Chief Librarian of ISI,Kolkata on Open Source Solutions. Hands on Training on KOHA was given by Mr.Vinod Kumar Mishra, Asst.Librarian,NIT,Rourkella; Monali Mitra,Deputy Librarian,ISI,Kolkata and Mr. Shuvadeep Sengupta,Manager Operations,LIS, British Council Division,Kolkata. The 20 participants attended the workshop from different academic and management institutions such as NSHM,Durgapur, IMS Business School, IISWBM,Kolkata ISI,Kolkata,Techno India Institute of Technology and so many. There were several facilitation techniques used by the trainer which included group discussions and practical implementation. The multitude of training methodologies was utilized in order to make sure all the participants get the whole concepts and they practice what they learn. The final course evaluation forms were filled in by the participants, the trainer expressed his closing remarks and reiterated the importance of the training for the trainees in their daily activities and their readiness for applying the learnt concepts in their assigned tasks. Certificates of completion were distributed among the participants at the end. The training program was conducted successfully and all the participants took active part in all the two days of the training. All participants were given Feedback form for their suggestions and recommendations. Looking at the summaries of their Feedback forms, it is clearly shown that they have highly appreciated this two days’ workshop and recommended for attending at similar workshop in future.
BIMS-MSME Entrepreneurship Development Program 2019
Bhavan’s Institute of Management Science Kolkata is a frontrunner in creating the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the society and to capitalize on the objective the E-Cell of BIMS with collaboration and mentorship of MSME, Govt. of India has organized a Five Day capsule program on Entrepreneurship Development at Bhavan’s salt lake campus from 9th April to 13th of April for the budding entrepreneurs. The Program does not only caters to the theoretical understanding of the aspects of a startup but also supplemented it by one day plant visit to Herald Food Products Pvt. Ltd based at Southern corner of Kolkata. Mr. S. Mukherjee, Asst. Director-MSME Kolkata and his team has successfully conducted the program with the coordination of the E-Cell and Prof. Biswarup Chatterjee of BIMS Kolkata. The program has received a huge acceptance that has reflected afterwards in the participants’ feedback survey done on the last of the event on 13th of April 2019. The event was inaugurated by Dr. R K Patra, Principal, BIMS on 9th of April and felicitation and valediction done by Dr. G V Subramanian, Director, Bhavan’s Kendra Kolkata on 13th of April 2019.
National Seminar on Digital Transformation of Business and Data Analytics
A National Seminar on Digital Transformation of Business and Data Analytics was held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Institute of Management Science (BIMS), Kolkata on 22nd May, 2019. The seminar was organized by The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) in collaboration with BIMS, Kolkata. The programme was inaugurated by CMA Manas Kumar Thakur and CMA. (Dr.) D. P. Nandy of ICAI, G. V. Subramanian, Director, BVB, Kolkata Kendra and Dr. R. K. Patra, Principal, BIMS. The Seminar emphasized on Digital disruption and Data Analytics and provided a forum for thoughtful discussions on the topics concerned with its relevance in today’s business and economic context. There were about 100 participants from academic, corporate and professional fields who attended this program with utmost enthusiasm. The key note speakers of this event were Dr. Paritosh Basu, Senior professor, NMIMS School of Business Management and Chair Professor MBA (Law), Mumbai ; Dr. Somnath Roy, Associate Professor, NMIMS School of Business Management, Mumbai and Prof. (Dr.) Jadab Krishna Das, Professor and Head, Department Commerce, University of Calcutta. A panel discussion session on ‘Application of Data Sciences for Strategic Business Decision and Execution Management’ made the programme more attractive. The programme was conducted under the co-ordination of CMA (Dr.) Jharna Dutta. The extreme hard work and cooperation of all the faculties and staffs added to the success of the seminar.
